How are the lanterns made?

These garden lanterns are made of sandcast aluminum. Sandcasting is a process for casting metal in sand molds. The mold is made by packing the sand around a pattern and is used only once. ItŐs an ancient form of casting and quite time consuming but results in a high quality, handcrafted product.

How is the finish applied?

The sandcast lanterns are powder coated after assembly. Powdered paint is electrostatically charged and sprayed onto the lanterns. To obtain the final abrasion resistant coating, the powder coated items are placed in an oven and heated to approximately 400F.
